About this season
Let’s start with the glaringly obvious, it’s been disappointing. We dreamed of building on last season’s late push for Europe and instead we are now doomed to spend at least the vast majority of the season looking over our shoulders at the bottom three. The past week perfectly summarised Leeds in 2021/22, a good performance followed by a bad performance, and not enough wins.
137 | Newcastle United (H)
Everyone in the build up to this match had us down for running away with this one, and on paper we should have! Instability through injuries, not taking chances and silly mistakes costs us all points here today. Still feeling confident that we'll beat the drop but there's a tough run of fixtures coming... Join Paul, Rocco & James
136 | West Ham Away - WIN!
Injury woes have sapped our optimism in recent weeks but It's funny the difference a couple of back-to-back wins in the Premier League can do for your mental health.
BIELSA 1-0 MOANING MINNIES
It was a victory for fortitude, for humility, and for Marcelo Bielsa. He overcame the London Curse, VAR and the worst injury crisis I’ve known in thirty years of watching English football to beat high flying West Ham on a remarkable Sunday afternoon.
135 | Burnley Win & West Ham F.A Cup Defeat
6 pointer against a boring Sean Dyche Burnley side, no one wants to pay Premier League prices and watch a non-league side!! Then, it was the same as usual - an unjury ravaged squad saw a crippled Leeds United side on another day out in the crapital. Are things on the up? We discuss.
An Act of Love Returned
What a game, what a win, and what a start to the year! After Bielsa stayed out with the players following their 7-0 drubbing at Manchester City, and the fans cheered them like heroes after the 4-1 defeat at home to Arsenal, the players repaid these acts of love in the only way they could, by sweating blood to beat Burnley.
An Act of Love
Saturday evening was a tough watch. Arsenal cut through Leeds with more ease and frequency than Manchester City did in their 7-0 victory four days earlier, and if it wasn’t for Meslier – our phenomenon between the sticks – it would have been 7-0 by half-time.
Back to the Future
Prior to the Chelsea game I questioned whether last season’s 9th placed finish was a result of first season syndrome, suggesting this season may be the real level of Leeds United, so the response at Stamford Bridge was as typical as it was unlikely. It was a fantastic performance that left me feeling guilty about ever doubting Bielsa’s band of brothers, until El Loco’s post-match comments exonerated me.
133 | Leeds vs Brentford & FIRST SEASON SYNDROME?
Leeds vs Brentford Podcast We're all for late winners and equalisers, but I'm not sure how much more stress we can all take. In the end we've had 5 points out of a possible 9, which isn't bad all things considering! There was mix-ups, players out of position and a raging Raphinha - we wouldn't change it for the world, remember these moments as they don't last forever.
