Slow news day today, the calm before the storm of a vital six-pointer against Ipswich. There were two Championship games though, and Hull missed the chance to temporarily move three points behind Leeds, losing at Bristol City, while Boxing Day opponents Preston continued their slide into the lower reaches of the division with a fifth defeat in their last seven.

What a joyous occasion at Elland Road! Like the Christmas Turkeys, Ipswich received a right good stuffing. Bass & Bligh Man of the Match Leif Davis grabbed a goal and won a penalty on his first return to Elland Road, and refused to celebrate either moment as is the modern custom. He was later subbed so he could take a personal lap of appreciation. The 4-0 win also swung the goal difference dramatically in United’s favour which almost counts as a point, and considering it was already a 6 pointer, by my maths Leeds earned 7 points for this win. Great day at the office.

Fabrizio Romano today broke the news of Finlay Gorman’s transfer to Man City, which everyone’s known about since bonfire night. It’s Christmas Eve babe, get yersen to the drunk tank.

Merry Christmas to everyone except Fabrizio Romano, who reported on Christmas morning that Aston Villa are keeping tabs on Crysencio Summerville. What an absolute melt.

Boxing Days don’t get much worse than this. Leeds fell to a miserable, limp and stupid 2-1 defeat at lunch time, then watched Southampton leapfrog them with a 5-0 win. The day was capped off by Ipswich equalising in the 93rd minute thanks to a double deflection, albeit against Leicester.

The knives are out today, with the Twitterati complaining about United’s away form and speculating about the numerous things Farke could be doing differently, and how they would all yield better results. I doubt our Kaiser chief is feeling any heat, but we could all do with a win at the Hawthorns on Friday.

The Elland Road hatches were battened down today. Smythy is on holiday, Hay is tweeting about Hearts, and I am spreading the pleasant news that Marcelo Bielsa has been nominated for the South American Manager of the Year award, following his heroics with Uruguay. Bless his cotton socks.
