Rocco's Round-Up (5/4/24 to 11/4/24)
Friday, 5th April 2024
It was a solemn start to the weekend with the 24th anniversary of the atrocities in Istanbul. A quarter of a century on and this date still brings such raw emotions for so many. Chris and Kev will never be forgotten.

Last weekend saw perfect results for Ipswich, and today it was Leicester’s turn as the Tractor Boys had their tyres burst by an opera of Canaries (yes, that’s the correct collective noun), while an ostentation of peacocks had their pride dented by a Mark of Robins.

The morning after our first defeat of 2024 sparked mass panic online, with Bamford, Meslier, Rutter and Farke all under the microscope. The ‘Leeds United’ pressure is beginning to mount, can our uber-cool German continue to keep the dressing room calm at Elland Road?

Wunderbar presser today from the boss, who apparently thrives when the sea is rough. Farke also gave resolute backing to Patrick Bamford, a player he has no concerns over, pointing out that his style can make him look arrogant when it’s going well and lazy when it’s not. Farke also dropped the ‘cup finals’ cliche, and with six games remaining I suppose this is a respectable time to do so. Strangely only our home games were identified as cup finals, which I quite liked, subtly sending the message that every game is not must win!

Once again Leeds failed to win, or score in a cup final, so ended one of the longest winning runs Elland Road has ever seen. The 0-0 draw against Sunderland moved them back into the automatic promotion places - and a point closer to Leicester who lost at Millwall - but it was a poor night for the lads. Despite being denied two clear penalties, few would argue we deserved much more.

On the anniversary of his iconic winner at Man City, Stuart Dallas sadly announced his retirement from football. What a terrible end for such a fantastic Leeds player, one of the shining lights of the Bielsa era. On the pitch, Ipswich drew 0-0 with Watford, making it a perfect gameweek for Southampton, who beat Coventry to keep their promotion hopes alive. Surely this weekend it’s our turn to enjoy perfect results?

Last season’s LUFC accounts have been released and heavily scrutinised today. Amid some horrifying details (multi-million pound pay offs to managers, and around 50m to JKA), the bottom line is that Leeds are operating within FFP, and the expenditure shows we can comfortably operate in the middle of the Premier League, as long as we don’t have a pratfall of clowns running the club.
